Dakota Johnson Recounts Jamie Dornan's Protective Gesture During Uncomfortable Fifty Shades Scenes

Filming intimate scenes, especially for a movie like the Fifty Shades trilogy, presented challenges for Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. The romantic drama, based on E. L. James' novel, required the lead stars to navigate sensual scenes, leading to moments of discomfort. Johnson revealed in a Glamour interview that during the filming of the Red Room scenes, even after the director called "Cut," she remained tied to the bed, naked. It was then that Dornan, her co-star, became her protector, promptly covering her with a blanket and ensuring her comfort.

The trilogy's exploration of nudity and explicit scenes added complexity, with the first film delving into the character of Christian Grey in a room filled with people. Despite Dornan's efforts to create a supportive environment, Johnson admitted to feeling stressed and uncomfortable during the filming, particularly in the Red Room scenes.

While Dornan prepared for his role by witnessing dominant-submissive sessions, Johnson took a different approach, delving into BDSM culture through reading. She emphasized the honesty of her character Ana's reactions and rejected the notion that Ana is weak. Johnson asserted that Ana's choices and actions in the film were expressions of her power, challenging the perception of Fifty Shades of Grey as "anti-feminist."

Despite her pride in her work, Johnson expressed a reluctance for her family and friends, including her mother, brother, and childhood friends, to watch the Fifty Shades trilogy.
